Four and Twenty Café

Four and Twenty café, a French-style bakery and café situated in Wynberg, has been one of my best discoveries. It is officially my favourite breakfast spot. I only visited the cafe on two occasions now and I have a strong feeling that number will increase during the course of the year. On both occasions, I was blown away by the beautifully presented food, ambiance and the service.

The first time I visited the café, I ordered the Eggs- Be-Lean (two free-range poached eggs on an aubergine, mushroom & truffle rosti with confit baby tomatoes and a light yogurt hollandaise). The eggs are poached perfectly, the rosti was crispy and the hollandaise brings everything together. The perfect balance of flavours!

The second time I ordered the Oriental Eggs Be-Lean (pan-fried mixed exotic mushrooms, topped with two poached eggs, an Indonesian-umami hollandaise and pilled with sesame-crusted crispy Bacon, garnished with buttery edamame beans, dressed with a drop of sesame oil). My favourite part of the dish is the crispy bacon, truffle mushrooms and Indonesian-umami hollandaise. I literally had to stop myself from licking my plate (it’s THAT good).

The interior design is French style – white painted tables and chairs, with the occasional bright pink cushion. They also have an open kitchen, you can see what the chefs are cooking and how clean the space is. I love open kitchens.

I was impressed with the service on both occasions, the waitrons are knowledgeable on their products but they also respect your space, so they not over-bearing. All the food is locally produced and the staff are dedicated to seasonality. They  have a bakery in the front of the Café.

The dishes are very filling and you will skip lunch and/or supper. I cannot emphasize how great the food is. You HAVE to go and experience it yourself.

You can follow my food adventures here.

Love and light,

Megan

I am so overjoyed that you enjoyed your meals at Four and Twenty, but please stop raving about it so we can keep it a secret!! My daughter and I have been enjoying their cuisine and patries for 3 years now and go through withdrawal when they close for their well deserved holidays! We LOVE them…….

    Dear Anne

Thank you for your kind words! I can fully understand why you would have withdrawal symptoms so I was there last week and I’m already planning my next visit.

    P.S I LOVE them too.
